Your PDF is inspected and processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded to FiloTool for metadata removal.

What PDF metadata this tool inspects

PDF document metadata includes property fields such as Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, CreationDate, and ModDate. FiloTool also lists readable custom entries stored in the same Info dictionary. Empty fields are omitted from the results.

What removal changes

The removal action deletes every standard and custom entry in the PDF Info dictionary, saves a new copy, reopens it, and verifies that the Info entry count is zero. The uploaded original is not modified. Saving rewrites the PDF structure, so byte size, object ordering, offsets, and serialization details can differ.

XMP is detected, not removed

XMP is a separate XML-based metadata packet. This version reports whether conventional catalog-linked XMP is present but does not remove it. An output with zero Info entries can therefore still contain XMP metadata.

What this tool does not remove

This tool does not remove hidden text, annotations or comments, form values, attachments, JavaScript or actions, bookmarks, visible page content, forensic revision history, or personal information printed on a page. It does not anonymize the document. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are rejected because their encryption cannot be preserved safely after editing.

Metadata removal and redaction solve different jobs

PDF metadata removal clears document property fields. Redact PDF addresses selected visible page content according to its separate flattening workflow. Metadata removal does not replace redaction.

PDF metadata is different from image metadata

EXIF-style camera, GPS, and image fields use different structures. Use Image Metadata to inspect supported image files or Remove Image Metadata for its focused image workflow.

Local processing, signatures, and limits

Inspection and removal run locally in your browser without rendering PDF pages. The limit is one PDF up to 100 MiB, with no arbitrary page-count limit. Malformed and encrypted PDFs are rejected. Rewriting document bytes can invalidate existing cryptographic signatures, so verify signed output with the software used for signing before relying on it.
