Add Headers and Footers to PDF Online
Add page numbers, dates, filenames, logos, and custom text to professional PDF headers and footers—without rasterizing your document.
Professional PDF headers and footers
Custom text and dynamic values: Build independent left, centre, and right zones with text plus page, total-pages, filename, title, date, author, and company tokens.
Page numbering: Choose plain, “Page X”, “X of Y”, padded, or Roman numbers. Preview and export share one formatter.
Print-ready layouts: Exclude or customise the first page, mirror left and right on even pages, or select a strict custom range.
Margins and overlap: Positions are calculated for every portrait, landscape, rotated, or mixed-size page. Long content produces a warning or can be explicitly truncated.
Quality and privacy: Existing pages are not rasterised. Searchable text, vectors, links, images, page order, and dimensions are preserved where supported. Processing stays in the browser.
Signatures and protected files: Adding content can invalidate signatures. Encrypted PDFs must first be opened with the existing Unlock PDF tool.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a header to a PDF?
Upload a PDF, enable Header, choose a left, centre, or right zone, then enter text or insert a dynamic token.
How do I add a footer to a PDF?
Enable Footer, edit its three independent zones, preview the selected page, and export the finished PDF.
Can I add page numbers?
Yes. Use {page}. Plain, Page X, X of Y, Page X of Y, padded, and Roman formats are available with start, offset, prefix, and suffix settings.
Can I show Page 1 of 10?
Yes. Enter “Page {page} of {pages}” or choose the corresponding page-number format.
Can I add a filename or document title?
Yes. Use {filename} or {title}. The title uses PDF metadata when available and can be overridden.
Can I add the current date?
Yes. Use {date} and select one of five date formats. The session date is used consistently during export.
Can I add a logo?
Yes. Place {logo} in a zone and choose a PNG, JPG, WebP, or securely rasterised SVG. Aspect ratio and PNG transparency are preserved.
Can the first page have a different header?
Yes. Keep the normal layout, remove both regions from page one, or select a dedicated first-page layout.
Can odd and even pages use different layouts?
Yes. Keep one layout, mirror left and right automatically for printing, or select a separate even-page layout.
Can I apply headers only to selected pages?
Yes. Choose all, first, last, all except first, odd, even, or a strict custom range such as 1-3,5.
Will the tool reduce PDF quality?
No full-page rasterisation is used. Header and footer objects are drawn onto the existing PDF pages.
Will it preserve searchable text and links?
Existing searchable text, vectors, images, annotations, and links remain where pdf-lib supports the source structure.
Will editing invalidate a digital signature?
It can. Adding page content changes the PDF, so existing cryptographic signatures may become invalid.
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. PDF loading, logo preparation, editing, validation, and download preparation happen locally in your browser.
Is there a page or file-size limit?
Yes. PDFs are limited to 100 MB and 500 pages, and logos to 10 MB, to reduce browser memory failures.
