What this PDF to Word converter preserves
FiloTool reads selectable text with PDF.js, sorts it in visual reading order, groups nearby lines into paragraphs, and inserts a Word page break between source pages. The output is an editable `.docx`, not a screenshot wrapped in a Word file.
Where the result differs from the PDF
PDF stores positioned marks on fixed pages, while Word reflows paragraphs. Exact columns, tables, fonts, headers, footers, forms, annotations, vector artwork, and line wrapping are not reconstructed. Supported raster images are included after the extracted text from their source page where practical, rather than placed at exact PDF coordinates.
Digital PDFs first
This version is intended for reports, letters, notes, and other PDFs that already contain selectable text. A scan-only document is rejected instead of generating an empty or misleading Word file. For scans, use OCR PDF to extract and review the text.
Private conversion and validated output
The source bytes stay in the browser. After generating the DOCX, FiloTool reopens its ZIP package and checks the required Word document parts plus the expected page-break count before enabling download.
Frequently asked questions
Does PDF to Word preserve the exact page layout?
No. This is a text-first converter. It preserves page order, extracts selectable text, groups nearby lines into editable paragraphs, and includes supported raster images where practical. It does not recreate exact columns, fonts, tables, forms, headers, or positioned page elements.
Can it convert a scanned PDF?
Not in this version. A scanned PDF without meaningful selectable text is rejected with a clear message. Use OCR PDF to extract the text first. OCR is kept out of this converter to avoid silently producing a slow or inaccurate Word document.
Are images included in the Word document?
Supported raster images that PDF.js exposes directly can be appended to the matching page. Image masks, vectors, unsupported encodings, very small images, and unusually large images can be omitted.
Does FiloTool upload the PDF?
No. PDF parsing, text and image extraction, DOCX generation, and package validation run locally in your browser. The selected document is not sent to a conversion service.
What are the browser-local limits?
The converter accepts PDFs up to 50 MiB and 100 pages. Complex documents and devices with limited memory can reach a lower practical limit.
