One editor for every practical kind of image blur

Full Image softens the whole frame. Selected Area applies actual pixel blur to rectangles. Brush Blur follows painted irregular shapes and includes a Restore brush. Background mode estimates a foreground mask, blurs behind it, and lets you correct the estimate before export.

Use a light blur for atmosphere or a stronger blur for an abstract backdrop. Previewing is non-destructive; the original file is never changed.

Selected areas

Draw multiple image-aligned regions. Unlike a grey overlay, the exported pixels inside each region are genuinely blurred.

Brush blur

Paint over faces, objects, or irregular shapes. Brush size controls coverage, softness feathers the mask edge, and Restore removes accidental painted blur without changing the source image.

Background

The foreground estimate works best on a distinct subject against a simpler background. It does not calculate true camera depth, and complicated edges may need brushing.

Masks, edges, transparency, and privacy

The blue mask overlay shows what remains sharp. Keep Subject restores mask pixels; Remove Subject sends them back into the blurred background. Feathering softens the transition, while expand and contract help reduce narrow halos. PNG and WebP can preserve transparency; JPG is flattened onto white or another colour you choose. Processing stays inside your browser.

How do I blur an image?

Upload a supported image, choose Full Image, Selected Area, Brush Blur, or Background, adjust the controls, preview it, and export.

Can I blur the entire image?

Yes. Full Image applies one adjustable blur to every pixel while preserving the original dimensions at export.

Can I blur only one area?

Yes. In Selected Area mode, drag one or more rectangles over the parts to blur, select regions from the list, or delete and redraw them.

How do I blur with a brush?

Choose Brush Blur and drag over the image. Set the brush size, blur strength, and edge softness before or after painting.

How do I blur an irregular shape?

Brush Blur follows freehand strokes, making it better than rectangular area boxes for curved or irregular objects.

Can I restore an area I blurred accidentally?

Yes. Choose Restore and paint over that part. Each Blur or Restore stroke can also be undone and redone.

Why does a background colour appear for JPG?

JPG cannot store transparent pixels. The selected colour is used only to flatten transparent areas during JPG export; it is not a brush colour.

Can I blur the background automatically?

Yes. Background mode estimates the likely foreground subject locally, keeps it sharp, and blurs the rest.

How does subject detection work?

It compares image edges and likely background colours to create a subject mask. It is an estimate, not perfect semantic or depth detection.

Can I refine the detected subject?

Yes. Use Keep Subject and Remove Subject brushes, undo or redo, expand or contract the mask, and adjust edge feathering.

Why are some hair edges imperfect?

Hair, fur, glass, similar foreground and background colours, and busy scenes are difficult for automatic masks. Zoom in and refine those edges with a small brush.

Can I blur a face or number plate?

Yes. Selected Area mode is designed for faces, number plates, addresses, and similar regions.

What is the difference between blur and pixelation?

Blur mixes neighbouring pixels into a soft result; pixelation replaces detail with visible blocks. Neither is the same as secure redaction.

Does blur permanently hide information?

Not reliably for high-risk secrets. Blur can sometimes leave recognizable structure; use opaque redaction when information must be irrecoverable.

Can I preserve PNG transparency?

Yes. Choose PNG or WebP to retain alpha where possible. JPG cannot store transparency, so the tool flattens it onto your chosen colour.

Are my images uploaded?

No. All four modes run in your browser and do not send image content or filenames to a server.

Does the tool work on mobile?

Yes. The layout stacks on narrow screens and painting uses touch-safe pointer controls. Very large files may exceed mobile memory.

Can I blur multiple images?

This editor currently handles one image at a time so manual regions and subject-mask refinements stay tied to the correct image.

Is there a file-size limit?

Yes. Files are limited to 40 MB and 50 megapixels to reduce the chance of browser memory or canvas failures.
